PizzaDAO* was born during the COVID pandemic on the Clubhouse app. At that time, when everyone was staying at home, conversations on Clubhouse flourished like never before, with many discussions focusing on NFTs, Bitcoin, Ethereum, and the metaverse blockchain technology in general.
At the beginning of 2021, long-time blockchain enthusiast Snax created an audio conversation titled “Room about nothing.” This nihilistic title attracted a mix of people, and from this group, a team gradually emerged that would become the foundation of the project.
Pizza holds legendary status within the blockchain community, as pizza was the first real-world object ever purchased with cryptocurrency — at the time, only Bitcoin existed. On May 22, 2010, a father named Laszlo bought two pizzas for 10 000 BTC. Since then, Bitcoin’s value has only continued to grow.
Through the sale of Rarepizzas NFTs, PizzaDAO raised over 1 million dollars in its first year, which allowed us to distribute 10 000 pizzas worldwide. Since 2021, with the support of sponsors from across the web3 ecosystem, we have been giving away pizzas at events — not only on May 22 , but also at side events during major conferences.
